Biomedical Engineering w/ PreMed ?

I heard that Biological Engineering is very closely related to Premed requirements. Is this true ? Does premed requisites overlap the courses for Biomedical Engineering ? Is it a good idea(is it much easier than other majors) to major in BME while doing premed ? I am planning on going to Medical school and would like to have BME as my backup.
