Does anyone know of any journal/periodical articles on Earth's magnetic field and/or atmosphere?

Hello guys and gals. I am writing a research paper on the protective nature of Earth's atmosphere and magnetosphere (i.e. as a collision deterrent, harmful wavelength filter...), and need to include a combination of book, website, and journal/periodical sources. I have already found a good selection of books and websites to use, however, I am having great difficulty finding the requisite journal/periodical sources. I am only a first year astronomy student, so if you folks know of any relevant articles that would be comprehensible to such a reader, that would be great. Also, I have found Sky & Telescope to be a pleasure to read, and so if anyone is aware of relevant articles in that publication, I would be ecstatic. Thank you VERY much for your time.
