Do I need music theory to learn how to create MIDI?

My college offers a course in MIDI electronic but there's not co requisite or pre requisite for music theory. Will I have difficulty in the course if I'm not an "expert" in music theory? I know the basic staff, flats, and sharps from middle school but nothing really in depth...
