I think I could be depressed, what to do?

Hi, lately I'm feeling really depressed and don't know what to do. I'm a top student and my grades haven't been dropping, but I'm continually gaining weight. I found out yesterday I gained 8 pounds in about a week. I've noticed that it's getting harder and harder for me to focus or pay attention to what I'm doing, and it's hard for me to find enjoyment in anything anymore. I tend to avoid being around people, including my friends. School's just ended, but in it I've never dropped below a 4.0 GPA, but I just don't feel competent at anything I do anymore. I used to aspire to get into high-end performing arts schools, but I don't think I'm at all good enough anymore. People tell me I'm smart, and a model student, but I just feel stupid and disliked lately. I have a lot of trouble sleeping, it takes me forever to fall asleep and I wake up a lot during the night. An hour ago I started crying for no real reason at all, and I have been having mood swings lately, but they're usually angry ones directed at my mom. Lately, I just feel like nobody will ever accept me and that I will never be able to succeed at any specific things. If it makes a difference, my mom and sister have both been diagnosed with depression. Anyway, after all that spew, back to my main question(s). Am I depressed? And if so, who should I talk to? Not necessarily. Some people major in history and go to medical school. You just need certain prerequisites. Such as organic chem, calculus, bio etc. You can get those classes in even if you had a different major. Medical schools like Harvard per say would prefer a bio major. If you have the required classes then you are fine. However, you are also going to need some clinical research, or some hospital interning on your side. Medical schools are very selective and even those schools who are nor ivy leagues are very selective.

I think the weird ones are intrusive thoughts which are really annoying, and although yours are extreme, they are kind of normal. I say kind of. This driving "school" is NOT doing her ANY JUSTICE whatsoever in even learning the basics of driving! I feel you are doing nothing but WASTING YOUR money! What in the world is she going to do driving "on her own", she's like an accident waiting to happen! I'm sorry to put it so bluntly to you, but I just feel for HER safety & for the safety of OTHERS, she is NOT ready by all means to be driving on the road. I lived 30 min. from Boston, KNOW too well what the traffic is like in that area & being a driver for umpteen yrs., I myself didn't like driving in the Boston area...far too many "one way" streets that ARE confusing to an experienced driver! I'm simply concerned for her welfare period. Perhaps your daughter could be of help to her when she takes her drivers lessons & it would be far more effective! She is NOT safe at all on the roads, especially in the areas she must drive in, as I am far too familiar with your area! From taking as many lessons as she's already taken, she should certainly KNOW which side of the road to drive on & also of the speed limits she should be going. I didn't even have that many lessons myself in drivers ed. in school & have been a VERY good defensive driver, have driven for 56 yrs. & NEVER got one single ticket in my whole driving career! Yes, granted I have done speeding on quiet back roads ONLY the ones I'm familiar with however, so I'm far from being a "saint" so to speak. However I did get good defensive driving thru school. IF your wife still has MORE "lessons" you've yet to pay for, I'm sorry to say I feel you just are throwing your money out the window & IF ONLY someone could get thru to her about it, it sure would save you money. Let your daughter take her out in a quieter section of your area & teach her how to drive, it would definitely be to ALL your benefits. Hi there. I had a similar problem coming up to the end of my grammar years, I opted for pharmacy at the Queen's university of Belfast, because it is the science of treatment, whereas Medicine is more the science of diagnosis. My sister studied Medicine at a well regarded British university. By the end of L1 (Year one of four for Pharmacy), I knew more about the operation of the human body than she did, it's all dependent on the university and course. Advancing through, I decided that while research is my main passion, I was interested in the application, and theoretical applications, of my drug work and decided, after a lot of thought, to embark on a shortened degree in medicine, covering the same material as normal but in a shortened time frame because of my prior knowledge, at King's college, Cambridge, before embarking on my PhD. Now I work as a Medical pharmacologist and researcher at the Imperial College, London, and St. Bart's and the London, and I absolutely love it, wouldn't trade it for the world :) But, in total, with the PhD, I was at university for 12 years :L, 4 years for each, although I was paid handsomely during the latter 8, with my training as a pharmacist and then as a doctor I could find employment wherever my studies took me. I can't help you with regards the American education system, but hopefully my story might be of some assistance :)

From personal experience I found that when you start your application early in the process the better your chances of being accepted since there are more seats to be filled. The OAT will test you on Biology, General & Organic Chemistry, Physics, Reading Comprehension, & Math. (No calculators are allowed for the OAT) So when you are done with physics you should be good to go. I don't recall any calculus problems for the math portion.

What should I do while waiting for nursing school acceptance?

I have gone to a university for 3 years studying Microbiology, then this past year I enrolled at a community college because I really realized that I do not want to be a Microbiologist and work in a lab and that my true passion is in healthcare, and I want to go to nursing school. So I've finished taking some of the pre-requisites and now just applied for nursing school for this upcoming fall.... and got denied almost all of the schools I applied and got wait listed on another. I caught my husband in a "white" lie, what should I do?

Getting into uw is hard in general but its not impossible. Getting in depends on how bad you want it and how hard youre willing to work for it. Raise your grades. Go to tutoring sessions to help you better understand the class. Since youre transferring from another college, i think the university will look more into your success in college than high school. Extra curricular activities are a plus too.

You guys been together for so long now and it's not easy to move on and let her go. Especially when she was someone whom you loved very much and cherished. But none of it is your fault, people change and that includes feelings. Sooner or later you'll find someone else and get over her. It may not be now or anytime soon but maybe a couple of months or maybe years. This kind of feeling is not something that can be healed over a short period of time. For some people it can take them years just to forget that one special person. But just know that it's not a medical problem so you don't need to worry. I just hope things work out :). Cut down on how many classes you are taking a semester so that you can relax and spend more time on each of them. You don't need to be in a hurry to get your bachelors degree. If you are in a hurry you are only learning to pass the class you aren't taking everything in like you should and want to. You have to high of expectations for yourself as well so you are stressing and not focusing on what needs to be done. Learn to meditate or some sort of relaxing techniques.

What should I take for fall semester?

I'm a biology major, and the next line up of pre requisites I need is Physics I, General Chem II and also Calculus. I'm a bit apprehensive about taking physics and calculus, or all three of these classes, together in the same semester. How do i move on from a class that i failed?

Cyst? Boil? What is it? What should I do?

I have had a red lump on my left *** cheek for quite some time now, it has over the past 3 months grown bigger and more painful and today, I touched it and it began to pop. I squeezed it, and it squirted dark red blood, and after about five minutes, all I could get out was thin and pink pussy blood. When I say squirted, I MEAN IT SQUIRTED. Literally, a solid stream of blood spewed all over my mirror for about 3 seconds at a time each time I squeezed it. After nothing else would come out, it was still extremely hard; it felt like there was still pus that needed to get out, but no matter how hard I squeezed, nothing would come out. Additionally, I exfoliated it, put rubbing alcohol on it, and put benzoyl peroxide on it in an effort to make it go away. It still is very painful right now, but it's not as hard as it was just a couple of hours ago. At this point I'm not at all sure what it is or what I should do. It really doesn't seem like an ingrown hair to me, but I may be wrong. What should I do? Please help!

you'll have no problem. The calculus based physics classes don't expect you to know high school physics as it's the same material learned, just less hand holding takes place.. I'm only taking Calculus 1 and i'm in calculus based physics (still in high school haha), but no they don't expect you to know formulas as it's the same basic material that's taught, just math emphasis changes between the two and seeing as you do well in math you'll do more than fine.

Ford Taurus help, please?

I have a 2006 ford taurus. A couple of weeks ago it broke down and was found out to be the onboard prosseor in the car wasn't talking to the fuel pump. That was replaced and all was good. Tonight we were at a light and when it turned green started to go but then it lost power. We pulled over and lifted the hood and found that when they the ford dealer was looking at it they didn't put the power steering cap back on properly and it was spewing fluid out from the cap. We put the cap back on properly and waited a few moments and the car started right back up. My husband thinks that is why it lost power because the cap wasn't on properly and it was loosing pressure, so to protect itself the car shut down. I don't know what to think.

What chances do I have getting into LIU Pharmacy school?

I'm currently in my 2nd yr at LIU as a pre-pharmacy student, finishing my pre-requisites. So far I have done very well overall in all of my classes....except for Organic Chemistry. Last semester when I took Organic Chem 1 i got a D for the class and this semester in Orgo 2 am not doing well at all. I thought of taking a UW at times, but I didnt want that on my transcript. Its unfortunate but I definitely think I'll get an F for this semester. Im really scared since Ive never failed a class before. Im happy to say however, that I did recieve three interview offers including LIU and it went well. Do u think the admissions commitee will reject me if I have one F on my transcript, even though the rest of my grades are above average and I scored above a 400 on the PCAT? I should add that at LIU they have what they like to call a "conditional acceptance" meaning you're accepted until your final grades are reviewed. They may take it back if they see that you've done poorly in ur classes, failed or have a withdrawl. Why wont the professor let me take that class?

it's a 400-level class but it doesn't have any pre-requisites. I registered and then the registration office emailed me to tell me that my registration for the course has been removed. I asked why and they told me to contact the professor or the department chair. I emailed the professor and he said you have to be a senior to take that class and I'm not so that's why he removed me from the registration list, and offered it to someone else. I want to talk to the department chair now, because it doesn't say anywhere on the bulletin or on the registration website that this course requires students to be seniors! I can't believe no one has thought of this before. Alright so get this. A guy and a girl who are friends are coming out of a bad relationship, or possibly a series of bad relationships, and are sick of the whole dating scene. But get this. Audi running hot? Had coolant flushed?

My 98 Audi started running a little hot for a couple days, i went and had the coolant flushed on friday. The people at Jiffy Lube didn't let my car run long enough, so when i left the shop steam started spewing out from under my hood. It was all antifreeze. I got it home and let it cool down, We checked the level, and the antifreeze was at minimum. So we brought the levels back up. On Saturday i drove it back to Jiffy Lube, and of course they were no help. He told me that i'm supposed to bring it back in 48 hours after service. And that the steam was from trapped air bubbles. Still, my car is running hotter than usual. My temp gauge has always been directly in the center since i bought it, now it's just right above the center line, not hitting the next little notch..and it doesn't continue rising, it stays right at that spot. Obviously, when i run my heater everything balances back out. My car hasn't steamed up since the initial first time. What are my next options? Check the thermostat? If they flushed my coolant wouldn't that have pushed stuff through so there wouldn't be a blockage in the radiator? Would getting a simple oil change help?

Good grades, Volunteering (couple hundred hours), Excellent MCAT scores, good extra curriculars (also consistent). Medical school is competitive and if you can get through medical school then it will be easier to become an anethesiologist because you'll have a good chance of getting into a good residency program. Oh and make sure you have taken the require science & math courses.

Have I just screwed myself over?

I'm taking an intro to micro-electronics course at Berkeley this summer. It's a lot harder than I expected, and I was stupid enough to forget about the Berkeley bell-curve. I also haven't taken the pre-requisite math and physics class yet. But enough about how idiotic I am, I need to know if I fail this class will it affect my future college transcript? I'm a highschool student, so is there anyway to shove whatever I get in this class into a nice dark hole and forget all about it if I fail? Or will it forever be imprinted on my college transcript and screw me over?

Small (liberal arts?) schools with good science?

i'm a high school junior trying to make my college applications list. i'm not a genius but i get quite good grades and do extracurriculars and sports and things. i've visited several colleges so far and think i definitely want a small or medium sized school, NOT a big research institution. i'm from a small town and very much like the friendly, familiar community feeling of a small school. also, i'm kind of a nerd and i like the smart, quirky, driven people at prestigious liberal arts colleges. however, some of the small schools i've looked at (macalester, bates, middlebury, williams) don't have very good science programs or science research. i am almost positive i want to study some kind of science, probably biology or medicine rather than chemistry or physics. any suggestions for small or medium (try to keep it under 15,000) sized schools with good science? liberal arts would be nice but is not an absolute requisite. schools i've already found that seem to fit these criteria include wesleyan (noted for good science), reed (good research, i've heard), rice (a bit more math-focused than i'm looking for but still nice) and case western (not liberal arts at all). i'm not hugely picky about location but i'm not too enthusiastic about the deep south. thanks for any suggestions!

Original idea for a movie what do you think?

I'll just give the synopsis. I'll try to make it brief. So it's about this nerdy guy who is madly love with the head cheerleader at his high school set in the year 2511. He knows he has no shot with a girl like her but he feels like he at least has to go for it. So he finally musters up the courage to ask her out and she says I WOULDN'T DATE YOU IF YOU WERE THE LAST GUY ON EARTH!! He is humiliated, so much so that he drops out of school and runs away hides from the world. He settles himself in the heart of the amazon rain forest where after several years he goes insane and begins experimenting with gene splicing so that he can create the first giant spider-octopus hybrid that spews gamma radiation from it's tentacles. He trains these creatures to wipe out every guy on earth besides himself of course. He successfully does so after an intense battle and finds his true love, but it turns out shes a lesbo. So wacks the ***** he just ***** a bunch of sluts and repopulates the Earth, but then an asteroid comes out of nowhere and the Earth is completely destroyed. But it turns out it was all an hallucination from a coma cause it turns out the girl had a boyfriend and he beat the **** out of him after he asked out the girl.

Problem with an older guy?

So theres this guy. His name is Ryan. He is 15, im 13. We like eachother a lot. But my mom won't let us date until I'm freshmen because she thinks he is too old and wants me to be in highschool to date him. BEFORE I TELL THE STORY MY MOM KNOWS ALL OF THIS, i tell her stuff. Well we go to the pool together, and we want to date eachother pretty badly, like we can't stand it. When we go to the pool he will put his arm around me and hold my hand and he respects my boundaries and my mom's decisions completely, he treats me great and is super sweet. Well we aren't dating because we won't go behind my mother's back like that. But we kissed at the pool today, nothing big just an innocent 3 second one.. He also met my mom today too and she likes him. I dont know.. I feel like a hoe for kissing him and getting all close with him at the pool and we aren't even dating, I love it and I am totally comfortable. I like it because of its honesty. I've read some of the parts in the bible that mainstream (and even regular fundamentalists) gloss over, and which the WBC talks about, and the WBC is basically repeating it censor-free. I think its rediculous that a single case has gotten so much attention. This isn't anyone famous, it isn't a celebrity or a politician or anything like that. This is just a regular person. And there are plenty of these cases that happen all the time. Why did this one become so popular? It's a sad commentary on our society. The already blurred line between celebrity, tv 'reality' and real life reality has almost been completely erased.

You can go to law school with pretty much any degree as long as you have good lsat scores and a good gpa. To be a pilot however, you need a great gpa and your classes should have lots of math and science. You need to speak with a Marine officer recruiter because he can get you going in the right direction.

Go ahead and ask the worst thing she can say is no. Explain all the bio classes you've taken that are the equivalent to whatever pre-requisite and that the university is not allowing those courses to count. It's not like you are a first year student trying to take a class you have no background in.

If you apply and get accepted into a college but dont add or register for classes... do they automatically delete you out of the system and then have to reapply again? Im asking because I want to transfer from a community college into a State University but need academic advise for a program I want to apply for. However, an advisor will not talk to you unless you are a student. So I am just applying so that I can talk to the advisor of the program to make sure that I am taking the correct courses in my community college as pre requisites to get into their program at the University.

I'm a 40yr old man dating a 22yr old woman...?

I'm a 40yr old man with a 22yr old girlfriend whom I absolutely love and adore. When i first met her i thought her age to be in the late 20's. She thought my age to be in late 20's to early 30's, due to being blessed with good genes. So basically when we are out together in public we don't appear like an odd couple. Sure I look a bit older than her but not like a geezer out with his daughter. Anyway, my question is: I've been contemplating whether or not I should make the noble self sacrifice of setting her free so that maybe she might meet someone closer to her own age I assume most of her family and friends would frown upon our age differences and I don't want to cause her any strife or hardships. The biggest problem is I've never cared for another woman the way I do her. The last year we've spent together has been bliss. She says I'm her best friend, and honestly she's my best friend too. The chemistry between us is amazing. We've never argued or yelled at each other. We've had disagreements but I'd let her have her way on certain issues and she'd let me have mine on others. I could on about our compatibility, but bottom line we seem to be made for each other in every way except the obvious... our age difference. Would I marry her? Absolutely. Would the age difference be a potential problem in the future? Probably so. Which is why I don't know what to do. I hate to let the love of my life go because of social stigmas or taboo's. And the potential problems in the future don't hold sway because many couples of nearly the same age statistically only have a 50 percent chance of staying together. Are there any pills I can overdose on or something? Seriously don't spew crap about how life is worth living and God is there to listen because I don't care and I sure as hell won't listen.
